If your baby has eczema, you probably received lots of advice already on how to look after your baby’s skin. We do not want to repeat the general advice that can be found elsewhere.* Rather, we want to draw your attention to the fact, that cosyplay have developed a baby play mat, which is particularly useful for babies with eczema. And here is why.
The cosyplay mat is available in minky fabric, a super soft fleece material, which will not scratch your baby’s skin. This is particularly important for babies that have eczema on their face. At some point during your baby’s first year, your baby will start to roll over and attempt to crawl. This inevitably means that your baby’s face will come into contact with the surface your baby is playing on.
Inflamed eczema skin can harbour 1000 times as many bacteria as found on healthy skin. This can lead to outbreaks of infection. It therefore makes sense to keep any surface that your baby comes into contact with as clean as possible. Our removable cosyplay cover is machine washable and can be tumble dried, offering the extra hygiene your baby’s skin needs.
Whilst it is important to have a clean surface for your baby to play on, it is even more important to make sure that no cleaning product residues are left on any surfaces your baby touches. Many baby play mats are washable, but if they have a waterproof base, this barrier prevents washing powder from being rinsed off properly in the wash. The next time your baby comes into contact with the mat, your baby’s skin will be exposed to highly irritant chemicals.
The cosyplay mat is different. The washable cosyplay cover removes completely from the play mat. This means, it can be washed thoroughly, including using the extra rinse function if your washing machine allows.
Our cosyplay mat was developed primarily as a play mat for mums and babies to spend time together. However, the cosyplay mat is a true multipurpose item. If you need a comfortable surface to apply emollient to your baby’s skin, the cosyplay mat will be ideal for your baby - and save your knees. And if your baby wriggles and tries to slip away, you can rest assured that he won’t hurt himself in the process. The memory foam is one-inch thick, impact-absorbing and insulating.
Our cosyplay mat uses a special waterproof material to protect the memory foam. This material called polyurethane laminated fabric, or PU fabric for short, is anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. PU fabric is used in the healthcare sector because it can be easily cleaned and sterilised. It is also very useful for asthma sufferers as it does not harbour any house dust mites.
